Description
Suurpäätulimuurahaisen alkuperäinen ympäristö on kuivahko, avoin tai puoliavoin maa. Vieraslajina laji on erikoitunut erilaisiin häiriöympäristöihin, kuten teiden varret, pihat, taimitarhat, viljelysmaat ja karjalaitumet. Laji leviää näistä ympäristöistä kuitenkin myös luonnonympäristöihin. Leviäminen tapahtuu joko siten, että nuori kuningatar perustaa uuden pesän itsekseen tai kokonaisia pesän osia muuttaa uuteen paikkaan.
