Description

The bark is pale silver-brown, smooth, shiny, shedding in long strips. The leaves are opposite, simple, and elliptical to oblong in shape, 6-15 x 3-6 cm, with a glossy, dark green color, margins entire, aromatic when crushed. Inflorescence is a 5-12 cm long axillary, compound panicle bearing small, fragrant, actinomorphic flowers. Calyx tubular, 4-lobed, creamy white. Petals are 4, 3-4 mm, white, reflexed, falling early. Stamens are numerous. Flowers are hermaphroditic, but functionally male or female. The fruits are spherical berries, about 5 millimeters in diameter, which turn from green to dark brown or black when ripe.
