Stem

Bark rough at the base, smoother and cream-green above. Older stems have large thorns, younger branches covered in hairs and with sharp prickles

Leaf

Bipinnate, compound leaves, dark green above, paler beneath, up to 30 cm long. Each leaf consists of 3-15 pairs of pinnae, each pinna having 5-12 pairs of leaflets, elliptic-oblong to ovate, rounded at the apex.

Each leaf consists of 3-15 pairs of pinnae, each pinna having 5-12 pairs of leaflets, elliptic-oblong to ovate, rounded at the apex.Pale yellow, 2,5-3 cm in diameter.  Appear in racemes in leaf axils and at the end of branches.

Fruit and seed

Dehiscent pods 6-11 cm long, 2-3 cm wide, containing 4-9 black ellipsoid, flattened, black seeds.
