Size

Stem
Bark on old trees is brownish-black, hard and fissured. In younger stems bark smooth and grey. The tree contains resinous gum.
Leaf
Leaves have 8-21 pairs of pinnae, each with 15-70 pairs of leaflets. Bipinnate leaflets, compound leaves small (<4 mm).
Flower
Red-orange, pale-green, in dense axillary racemes. Flowers when the tree is leafless.
Fruit and seed
Flattened pod. Seeds winged.
