Growing form

Perennial bulb.

Size

30–90 cm high.

Stem

The plant is arhizomatous. The bulb is ovoid. The stem is terete.

Leaf

There are 2–5 leaves in the lower half of the stem. The leaves are sheathed, linear and 6–18 mm wide. The sheath is acutely angular. The wide, short acuminate, solitary bract is shorter than the inflorescence.

Flower

The inflorescence is a dense terminal umbel that is 1–5 cm wide and few-flowered. There are numerous bulblets in the inflorescence. The bulblets are dark purple. The pedicels are even 2 cm long. The tepals are 4–7 mm long, purple and keeled.

Fruit and seed

The fruit is a capsule, about 5 mm. Seeds seldom develop.
