Sansevieria

Description

Erect leaves arise directly from a thick underground rhizome and vary in shape and size among different species and cultivars. They can be sword-shaped, cylindrical, or lanceolate, and often have a leathery texture. Leaf colors range from various shades of green to gray-green, with some species featuring contrasting patterns or bands of lighter and darker colors. The leaves may be short and compact or long and tall, depending on the species. Inflorescences arise directly from the rhizome, are erect, paniculate, racemose, or spicate. Flowers are bisexual; tepals basally connate into tube, white, yellowish white, pale pink, or greenish white, tips narrow. Fruit is a red or orange berry containing 1-3 seeds.
