Leaf

Leaves alternate (±all trees) or opposite (± all lianas); simple; entire margin; ± without stipules.

In trees: leaves typically clustered to the apex of the branch and with a pair of glands on the upper petiole surface.

In lianas: Often densely parallel tertiary leaf venation. No glands on petioles, neither t-shaped hairs (cf. Malpighiaceae).

Flower

Usually 4-5 sepals + 4-5 petals; stamens 5, 10(-30). Bisexual. Ovary inferior.

Fruit and seed

Fruit drupe, samara (or capsule).
