Growing form
Perennial herb.
Size
15–40 cm high.
Stem
The stem is erect, simple, rigid and woolly.
Leaf
The leaves are arranged spirally and rather densely on the stem. The leaves are ascending and become gradually smaller up along the stem. The basal leaves are short-petiolate, and the lamina is lanceolate. The lamina of the cauline leaves is linear. The lamina is acute, simple, entire and single-ribbed, opaque green and sparsely pubescent above, and white-woolly beneath.
Flower
The capitulescence is long, rather lax and spicate. The capitula are approximately 6 mm long. The phyllaries are imbricate, obtuse, hyaline, lustrous and light brownish at the apex. The ligule florets are absent. The ray florets are pistillate, and the disc-florets are bisexual.
Fruit and seed
The achene is pubescent. The pappus is slightly brownish or reddish.
