Growing form
Perennial herb with several scapes.
Size
20–50 cm high.
Stem
The scape is much longer than the leaves, arcuate at the base, consipicuosly sulcate, and covered with soft and appressed hairs particularly at the summit of the stem.
Leaf
The leaves form a basal rosette. The petiole is typically 1–4 cm long, occasionally even as long as the lamina. The lamina is rather thin, ovate – elliptic – nearly lanceolate, entire or scant-toothed, and white-pilose.
Flower
The dense spike is typically 2–8 cm long. The calyx lobes are about 2 mm long, glabrous, green or reddish, and hyaline at the margin. The corolla lobes are 1.5–2 mm and rather acute. The stamens are about 10 mm long and protrude outwards from the corolla. The filaments are white or reddish.
Fruit and seed
The capsule is 3–4 mm long and contains two to four seeds. The suture is almost in the middle of the capsule.
