Size
10–30 cm high.
Stem
Typically few-branched.
Leaf
The leaves are opposite, exstipulate, narrowly ovate – nearly linear. The bracts are like the stem leaves, narrow, entire and green.
Flower
The secund inflorescence consists of paired axillary flowers. The flowers are bisexual. The calyx is four-lobed. The lobes are 2.5 mm long, narrowly deltoid and retrorse. The corolla is dark butter-yellow, 7–9 mm, and bilabiate. The upper lip is cucullate and the lower lip is trilobate and deflexed. The tube is short. The throat is open.
Fruit and seed
The fruit is an ellipsoid capsule that is as long as the calyx and contains 2–4 ovoid seeds.
