Growing form
Annual herb.
Size
8–25 cm high.
Stem
The stem is erect or ascending, and pubescent.
Leaf
The leaves are typically opposite. The lower leaves are short-petiolate, and the upper leaves are sessile. The lamina is deltoid-ovate, obtuse or shallow-cordate, and serrate. The distal stem leaves are simple.
Flower
The inflorescence is a long, dense raceme. The pedicel is shorter than the bract. The calyx is often zygomorphic and four-lobed or rarely five-lobed. The corolla is 2–3 mm wide and blue. The corolla is typically rotate, short-tubular and four-lobed. The lobes are longer than the tube. There are two stamens in a flower.
Fruit and seed
The capsule is compressed, obcordate, deeply cleft and the margin is covered with glandular hairs.
