Growing form
Biennial herb.
Size
50–100 cm high.
Stem
The stem is dark green and scarce-pubescent.
Leaf
The leaves are simple. The basal leaves are in a rosette. The arrangement of the cauline leaves is spiral. The lamina of basal leaves is cordate and serrate. The cauline leaves are not decurrent and the lamina is ovate.
Flower
The inflorescence is a long compound inflorescence, which is typically unbranched. The calyx is five-lobed and actinomorphic. The corolla is rotate, nearly actinomorphic, short-tubular, 18–25 mm wide and yellow, rarely white. The androecium is five-leaved, actinomorphic or zygomorphic. The filaments are covered with purple hairs.
Fruit and seed
The capsule is septicidal and filled with many seeds.
