Growing form

A rather small, deciduous shrub.

Size

50–150(–250) cm high.

Stem

The twigs are scantily branched with dark bark and brown-lanate when young but become glabrous soon.

Leaf

The leaves are short-acuminate, 20–30 mm long, and brown-pubescent when young. The lamina is glabrescent, and the adaxial side becomes glabrous, lustrous green when fully developed. The abaxial side becomes glabrate too.

Flower

The flowers are arranged in racemes of 5–10 flowers at leaf axils. The calyx and corolla are nearly campanulate. The sepals are broad deltoid and green. The petals are approximately 2 mm long, nearly orbicular, white or reddish.

Fruit and seed

The berry is 6–10 mm in diameter and black when ripe.
