Growing form
Low, perennial herb.
Size
10–25 cm high.
Stem
The rhizome is creeping, stoloniferous and lignified. The stem is biennial, erect, two-leaved and single-flowered.
Leaf
There are two long-petiolate leaves on the stem. The lamina is reniform, rugose, serrate and with 5–7 short, obtuse lobes.
Flower
The plant is dioecious. The flowers are solitary. The corolla is 20–30 mm wide and white. The calyx and corolla are five-leaved. There are numerous stamens and separate carpels in the flower. The gynoecium is reduced in staminate flowers, and the androecium is reduced in pistillate flowers.
Fruit and seed
The fruit is a compound drupe, which is first red and later on yellowish orange when ripe.
