Growing form
Perennial, rhizomatous herb.
Size
20–40 cm high.
Stem
The stem is erect, angular, and maroon at the base.
Leaf
The leaf arrangement is spiral. The leaves are sessile, lanceolate, cuneate, typically serrate, compressed, succulent and glabrous.
Flower
The inflorescence is a dense cyme. The flowers are bisexual and actinomorphic. The calyx and corolla are five-leaved. The sepals are of different lengths and obtuse. The petals (7–9 mm) are yellow. There are ten stamens and five carpels in a flower.
Fruit and seed
The fruit is a many-seeded follicle.
