Arctostaphylos uva-ursi

Growing form

Dwarf-shrub.

Size

20–100 cm long.

Stem

The stem is procumbent and forms creeping carpet-like stands.

Leaf

The leaves are over-wintering. The leaf arrangement is spiral. The lamina (12–30 mm) is obovate, simple, coriaceous and ciliate. The venation is reticulate.

Flower

The flowers are bisexual and short-pedicellate. The corolla (5–6 mm) is five-lobed, urceolate and the color varies from pink to greenish white. There are ten stamens in a flower. The gynoecium is connate with a single style.

Fruit and seed

The fruit is a red berry, which has a floury texture and is rather tasteless.
