Pinkka
Pinkka is a species learning environment of the University of Helsinki. Name ‘Pinkka’, meaning ‘stack’ in Finnish, refers to the stacked herbarium sheets of dried plant specimens found in a traditional herbarium, which have traditionally been used to learn species identification.
The development of Pinkka began in 2005. The name of the learning environment, originally known as a virtual herbarium, soon became established as Pinkka. Since 2014, Pinkka has been developed utilizing the systems of the Finnish Biodiversity Information Facility. Pinkka's background system is the Species Database of the Finnish Biodiversity Information Facility, and the species images and descriptions stored in Pinkka are also displayed on species cards of the Laji.fi portal.
