Origin and general distribution
Kyhmypilkkasiivestä erotetaan kaksi alalajia, pohjoisamerikkalainen nimialalaji sekä itäinen Keski-Aasista Tyynellemerelle pesivä stejnegeri-alalaji. Molempia alalajeja on havaittu Euroopassa ja Suomesta on vuoden 2022 loppuun mennessä havaintoja neljästä koiraasta: yksi nimialalajin yksilö ja neljä stejnegeriä. Suomen toinen havainto kyhmypilkkasiivestä (stejneger-alalaji) tehtiin Haliakselta 27.5.-12.6.2012 (Lehikoinen ym. 2012a,b, 2013).
