Origin and general distribution
Ensimmäisen kerran Tomaatin kloroottista kääpiöviroidia havaittiin Kanadassa 1996. Sen jälkeen sitä löytyi myös Arizonasta Yhdysvalloista sekä Meksikosta, Intiasta ja Japanista. Tautia on löydetty Euroopassa tomaatintuotannosta vain Ranskassa ja Norjassa, mutta koristekasveista sitä on todettu useassa maassa, myös Suomessa.
