Origin and general distribution
Viroidi on alun perin kotoisin Japanista, josta se on levinnyt jokaiseen maanosaan. Euroopassa tauti on aika uusi tulokas, mutta viime aikoina esiintymien määrä on kuitenkin lisääntynyt nopeasti.
Suomesta Hop stunt viroidia on todettu kerran kasvihuonekurkulta.
