Origin and general distribution
Tomaatin keltakäppyrälehtivirusta todettiin ensimmäisen kerran Lähi-Idässä 1960-luvulla. Kasvikaupan laajentumisen myötä virus alkoi 80-luvulla levitä tehokkaasti etelänjauhiaisen mukana uusille alueille. TYLCV on iso ongelma trooppisilla ja subtrooppisilla alueilla. Esimerkiksi Libanonissa tomaatin avomaatuotanto loppui viruksen takia. EU:n alueella virusta on todettu Ranskassa, Espanjassa, Italiassa ja Kreikassa.
