Jauhokoisa levisi Eurooppaan ja Suomeen jauhotoimitusten mukana 1900 -luvun alussa. Se elää myllyissä ja leipomoissa.Toukka suosii vehnäjauhoja, mutta esiintyy muissakin jauhoissa, leipomotuotteissa ja siirtomaatavaroissa, mutta ei jyvissä.
