Origin and general distribution
Pihkakoron alkuperää ei varmuudella tiedetä. Sitä on laajalti Pohjois-Amerikassa, mitä arvellaan sen alkuperäalueeksi. Nykyisin sitä on tavattu myös Chilessä, Meksikossa ja Japanissa. Euroopassa se on levinnyt Pohjois-Espanjaan ja yksittäisiä havaintoja on muualtakin Välimeren alueelta. Suomessa pihkakoroa ei ole tavattu.
