Origin and general distribution
Virus on löydetty omenapuulta (Malus spp.) 1950-luvun lopulla USA:ssa ja Englannissa. Virusta esiintyy kaikkialla, missä omenapuita viljellään. 1980-luvun puolivälissä virus eristettiin Suomessa testiomenapuiden sekä viljeltyjen omenapuiden lehdistä ja kukista. Virus on myöhemmin määritetty Suomessa useista omenalajikkeista ja perusrungoista sekä luumusta. Virusta esiintyy yleisesti omenatarhoilla.
