Origin and general distribution
Virus on löydetty kaupallisesti viljellystä joulutähdestä USA:ssa 1980 ja samana vuonna myös Saksassa ja 1983 Kanadassa. Virus on yleinen Euroopassa ja Pohjois-Amerikassa. Suomessa virus eristettiin oireellisista joulutähdistä vuonna 1993. Virusta esiintyy maahantuoduissa joulutähden pistokkaissa, mutta joinakin vuosina oireet ovat olleet poikkeuksellisen voimakkaat. Yleensä hyvissä kasvatusolosuhteissa kasvit ehtivät toipua myyntikuntoon.
