Origin and general distribution

A. donax is native to tropical and temperate regions of the Old World. It is now widely dispersed from the Mediterranean region to South-East Asia. It has also become naturalized and invasive in many regions, including southern Africa, sub-tropical USA, Mexico, the Caribbean, South America and Pacific Islands.
