Origin and general distribution
Laji on kotoperäinen Etelä-Amerikan pampavyöhykkeellä Kaakkois-Brasiliassa, Uruguayssä ja Pohjois- ja Keski-Argentiinassa. Laji levisi 1918 Yhdysvaltojen kaakkoisosiin, missä se runsastui voimakkaasti. Ei ole vielä tavattu Euroopassa, mutta ennusteen mukaan voivat levitä Eurooppaan Välimeren seudulle, Keski- ja Länsi-Eurooppaan ja Brittein saarille. Suomen luontoon leviäminen erittäin epätodennäköinen.
