Distribution
Origin and general distribution
C. longa was domesticated in southern or southeastern Asia. It is a cultigen and not known in a wild state with certainty. It is widely distributed throughout the tropics between 30° N and S, but its cultivation as a spice is largely confined to India and southeastern Asia.
