Origin and general distribution
The center of origin and domestication of sweet potato is thought to be Central America, or both Central and South America. Sweet potatoes are cultivated throughout tropical and warm temperate regions between 40°N and 32°S, up to 2000 m (and up to 2500 m in equatorial regions).
