Origin and general distribution

Cashew is native in tropical America (Mexico, Peru, Brazil and the West Indies). It is distributed in the tropics and subtropics in America, Asia and Africa (30°N-25°S). In the tropics the tree can be found at altitudes between sea level and 1200 m.
