Origin and general distribution
The origin of S. sesban is unclear. Africa is its centre of diversity, and it probably originated there. From northeastern Africa, S. sesban var. sesban and its variants were spread across southern Asia. Sesbania sesban is widely distributed and cultivated throughout tropical Africa and Asia in altitudes between 100 and 2300 m.
