Distribution in Finland
Pyöriäisiä on aiemmin havaittu Itämerestä Kemin seudulta ja Suomenlahden itäosista asti, mutta pyöriäisten kanta on vähentynyt niin, että lajia tavataan lähinnä Saaristomerellä.
Origin and general distribution
Pyöriäisiä esiintyy useilla eri alueilla maailman merissä ja rannikkoalueilla, erityisesti pohjoisen pallonpuoliskon kylmissä ja lauhkeissa vesissä. Levinneisyys kattaa Pohjois-Atlantin ja pohjoisen Tyynenmeren alueet, ja pyöriäisestä esiintyy myös alalaji Mustallamerellä.
