Origin and general distribution
Kotisirkka on alkujaan kotoisin Pohjois-Afrikasta. Keskuslämmityksen yleistyminen hävitti ennen Itä-Suomen puulämmitteisissä taloissa yleensä sirittäneen lajin lähes kokonaan. Se alkoi jälleen yleistyä kaatopaikoilla, laitosten keittiöissä ja sosiaalitiloissa sekä kasvihuoneissa.
