Origin and general distribution
Aleutian ragwort is native to North-East Asia (Siberia) from an area reaching to the westernmost part of Alaska. The species was introduced to Finland from the Russian Far East and Hokkaido in Japan.
In Finland, the species was introduced to the University of Helsinki Botanical Garden in Kaisaniemi for the first time in 1980, and to the botanical garden in Kumpula in the early 1990s. The species proved highly capable of spreading and soon escaped to wastelands in the nearby residential area in Kumpula. Aleutian ragwort grows not only in the botanical garden in Kumpula, but also in the borough Vallila and the Viikki Arboretum. The species has also been detected in Ruissalo by a forest path, probably as an escapee from the botanical garden.
The chart shows temporal distribution of the observations, which is not the same as population increase/decrease.
