Origin and general distribution

Pomegranate is native from Iran to the Himalayas in northern India. It has been cultivated since ancient times throughout the Mediterranean region of Asia, Africa and Europe. It is cultivated in most parts of the tropics and subtropics, up to 1600 m altitude in equatorial regions.
