Identification

The plants have copious white latex, 5 connate and contorted or valvate petals and usually opposite leaves (but no stipules, cf. Rubiaceae). The fruit is usually a 2-parted schizocarp.

Origin and general distribution

Pantropical to warm temperate.

Fruit a 2-parted schizocarp, drupe, berry or capsule.
