Origin and general distribution

Sorghum originated in northern Africa, probably in Ethiopia. It is cultivated widely in semi-arid tropical and subtropical regions of Africa, Asia, the Americas, Europe and Australia between latitudes of up to 50°N in North America and Russia and 40°S in Argentina.
