Origin and general distribution
Date palm is not known in the wild state. There is evidence of date usage 8000 years ago in India as well as its cultivation in Sumeria and the ancient Egyptian empire. Date palm occurs throughout the dry regions between 15° and 35° N, from the Canaries and Morocco in the west to India in the east. It is also cultivated in Arizona and California in the USA, Queensland in Australia, and in southern Europe.
The chart shows temporal distribution of the observations, which is not the same as population increase/decrease.
