Origin and general distribution
Green foxtail is a native of southern Europe.
In Finland, it is an occasional neophyte in mill yards, landfills, ports, rail yards, gardens and fields. It has been found as far north as Oulu.
Green foxtail is present in Europe in similar areas to the yellow foxtail. Foxtails spread with bird seed.
It is thought that yellow foxtail will be able to produce viable seeds in southern and central Finland as global warming proceeds, which would make it an invasive alien species.
The chart shows temporal distribution of the observations, which is not the same as population increase/decrease.
