Growing form
Perennial grass.
Size
50–120 cm high.
Stem
The plant produces long stolons. The culms are erect – ascending and glabrous.
Leaf
The lamina is 5–13 mm wide, often blueish, compressed, acuminate and glabrous. The leaf-sheaths, especially the highest one, are inflated. The ligule is 3–6 mm long and acute.
Flower
The inflorescence is a dense, cylindrical spicate panicle (3–6 cm x 8–15 mm). The spikelets are 4–5 mm long, compressed and single-floreted. The glumes are acute, trinerved, connate in the basal half, blue-green – blackish, pubescent on the dorsal side and curved outwards at the apex. The lemma is obliquely obtuse, awnless or aristate. The awn is straight, starts at the center of the lemma and extends the apices of the glumes by 3–4 mm.
