Growing form
Perennial, rhizomatous herb.
Size
50–150 cm high.
Stem
The stem is erect and rigid.
Leaf
The leaf-arrangement is spiral. The basal leaves are 20–40 cm long and numerous. The stem leaves are numerous too. The lamina is gray beneath and interruptedly imparipinnate with three to five pairs of leaflets. The terminal leaflet is larger than the other leaflets and cleft into three to five lobes. The other leaflets are ovate and doubly serrate. There are very small leaflets between the larger leaflets.
Flower
The inflorescence is a long (5–25 cm), dense compound panicle. The flowers are fragrant. The petals (3–4 mm) are white with hint of yellow. There are typically five petals and sepals, and numerous stamens and carpels in a flower.
Fruit and seed
The fruit is a helicoid, glabrous, about 3 mm long achene.
