Äitienpäivän aikoihin Etelä-Suomen lehtipuumetsien pohjalla kukkiva valkovuokkomeri on kevään häikäisevimpiä luontoelämyksiä. Vuokkojen kukkimisaikaa kutsutaan metsän kevätaspektiksi. Tällä tarkoitetaan aikaa, jolloin puiden lehdet eivät vielä varjosta metsänpohjan kasveja. Pohjoiseen mentäessä valkovuokko harvinaistuu nopeasti ja jo Pohjois-Hämeessä sitä kasvaa enää siellätäällä. Pohjois-Suomen muutamat joenvarsien ja suonlaitojen erillisesiintymät lienevät perua ajalta, jolloin ilmasto oli nykyistä lämpimämpi ja valkovuokon levinneisyys kattavampi.Author
