Origin and general distribution
Palsamipihta on kotoisin Pohjois-Amerikasta, missä se on pihtalajeista laajimmalle levittäytynyt. Sitä kasvaa Kanadan itä- ja keskiosista Yhdysvaltojen Suurten järvien alueelle asti. Suomessa palsamipihtaa on viljelty koristepuuna lähes koko maassa varsinkin kaupunkien puistoissa. Rannikkoseuduilla se on kuitenkin altis havukirvalle ja muille neulastuhoille. Palsamipihta voi menestyä aina Lappia myöten.
