Ophioglossum vulgatum

Growing form

The fronds often form large stands. The prothallium is subterraneous, tuberous and accompanied by a mycorrhizal symbiotic partner.

Size

5–20 cm high.

Leaf

The petiolate, glabrous frond emerges from the rhizome. There is a leaf sheath at the base of the frond. The frond is divided at half-way into a sterile lamina and a fertile part without a lamina. The lamina is yellow-green, elliptic, greasy-lustrous and reticulate.

Root

The rhizome is short. The roots are long.
