Suomessa rantakäärmettä tavataan maamme eteläisissä osissa, ja yleinen se on vain maamme lounaisissa osissa, etelärannikolla ja järvialueilla Kristiinankaupungin ja Savonlinnan korkeudelle saakka. Pohjoisimmat yksittäiset havainnot ovat kuitenkin Oulun korkeudelta saakka.
