Origin and general distribution
Neidonkorennot ovat levinneet ympäri maailman, mutta lajien esiintymistä rajoittaa sopivien virtaavan veden ekosysteemien olemassaolo. Suurin osa heimon tunnetuista lajeista elää trooppisten ja subtrooppisten alueiden virroilla. Heimo puuttuu kokonaan Karibialta, Etelä-Amerikan eteläosista, Australiasta ja Uudesta-Seelannista sekä esimerkiksi pääosasta Tyynen valtameren saaria ja maailman pohjoisimpia alueita.
