Kotitomutäi on luultavasti yleisin sisätiloissa esiintyvä jäytiäisemme (Psocoptera) ja siitä on havaintoja ainakin Oulun korkeudelle.

Origin and general distribution

Laji on alun perin kuvattu Rhodesiasta eli nykyisestä Zimbabwesta. Laji on yleinen Afrikassa ja Euroopassa, mutta se on kulkeutunut ihmisen mukana myös Pohjois-Amerikkaan.
