Origin and general distribution
Hiukekiilupistiäiset ovat levittäytyneet ympäri maailmaa aina aavikoista sademetsiin asti. Ne puuttuvat vain Etelämantereelta. Niiden sukujen monimuotoisuus on korkeimmillaan Austaliassa ja Uudessa-Seelannissa (55 sukua), Etelä-Amerikassa (57) ja orientaalisella alueella (44). Euroopassa sukuja on tavattu vain 24 (Samkova ym. 2020).
