Japanese Badger – Meles anakuma

Meles anakumaTemminck, 1844

Accepted name, Mammal Species of the World 2005

Heptner et al. (1967) and Baryshnikov and Potapova (1990) considered anakuma a subspecies of Asian badger. However, Abramov (2001, 2002) supported the recognition of these forms as distinct.
