Accepted name, Mammal Species of the World 2005

Subgenus Nannomys. Either treated as a species possibly allied to M. setzeri (Vermeiren and Verheyen, 1983) or listed as a subspecies of M. minutoides (Meester et al., 1986; Skinner and Smithers, 1990). The definition of this form and its phylogenetic relationship to other southern African species require resolution.
